Description: John Snow, Inc. (JSI), a public health research and consulting organization dedicated to advancing health for individuals and communities, is recruiting for a Bachelor-level graduate to serve as a Project Associate for its domestic Health Services Division office in Berkeley, CA. This position is designed to provide a breadth of exposure to multiple areas of public health for a recent graduate looking to launch a career in public health, health policy, or a related field. 

The Project Associate will be responsible for supporting a variety of projects related to U.S. public health and health policy issues, including but not limited to: payment and delivery system reform, behavioral health and homelessness, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, multisector collaboratives, social determinants of health, and racial equity. The Project Associate will also actively participate in organizing and contributing to proposals for new projects at the local, state, and national levels.

Limited travel within the U.S. may be required.

Responsibilities The Project Associate will: 

  • Provide research and administrative support for project teams, including web and literature searches, logistical coordination of project activities (interviews, meetings, trainings, workshops, webinars) maintenance of project-related files, and notetaking; 
  • Contribute to project deliverables and project and office-wide communications, including outline drafting, writing, formatting, editing, and design; 
  • Interface with clients and support the range of project activities – from scheduling meetings to presenting work products; 
  • Organize and contribute to business development for new projects; 
  • Represent JSI with external audiences and clients at conferences and events; 
  • Work collaboratively and communicate frequently with project team members locally and in other JSI offices;
  • Perform other tasks as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree (No Master’s-level or PhD-level candidates, please.) 
  • 1-2 years of work and/or internship experience 
  • Knowledge of or interest in learning about domestic public health and health policy issues 
  • Commitment to promoting racial equity and social justice 
  • Excellent writing skills for a variety of audiences 
  • Strong professional and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Ability to conduct and synthesize online research from multiple sources 
  • Basic foundation in research methods; experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis a plus 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, yet contribute to team and organization-wide efforts 
  • Proficient in MS Office programs (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and Google products (Drive, Gmail, Docs) 
  • Data visualization and/or graphic design skills preferred; proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) a plus
