Black Women for Wellness is currently hiring an Environmental Justice Program Manager. Candidates with strong science/chemistry backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Responsible for the development and coordination of Black Women for Wellness community-based environmental research projects 
    • Seek potential research partners (with local beauty industry businesses, managers, community members, research institutions, governmental agencies,+ academics)
    • Submit research project funding proposals.
    • Develop and cultivate relationships with beauty professionals including stylists and salon owners in South Los Angeles/Inglewood area to include in work 
    • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research in South Los Angeles area.
    • Record, transcribe, analyze and input data from research
    • Stay updated on environmental toxic related research papers and studies
    • Community liaison for community-based research projects 
  • Responsible for advocacy and guidance of Black Women for Wellness’ environmental justice policy agenda. 
    • Provide advice on signing onto letters of support for environmental bills
    • Participate in coalition/co-sponsor meetings on environmental bills
    • Lobby visits to state and local elected officials 
    • Development of related printed materials
    • Organize community members to attend lobby days/legislative visits for environmental-related bills
  • Community liaison with academic institutions, research institutions, organizations, boards and coalitions that partner with Black Women for Wellness in our environmental justice work 
    • Attend and participate in coalition collaborative work
    • Develop and maintain professional contact/relationships with Universities, community leaders, community organizations, businesses and elected officials around toxic chemical safety.
    • Ensure that collective decisions and plans are rooted in BWW’s EJ base and consider our communities concerns/ideas
  • Create educational materials, submit articles for publication, content for popular education and social media, abstracts to conferences and institutes on the environmental justice research and the work of Black Women for Wellness 
    • Create flyers and other materials for outreach.
    • Write op-eds on important EJ issues 
    • Create/distribute educational materials on EJ/toxics issues
    • Conduct presentations, workshops and training about research data and environmental toxic issues.
    • Develop of educational campaigns 
  • Build the EJ department’s capacity through supervising and supporting a growing network of  volunteers, interns, and program assistant 
    • a strong internship program with colleges and federal and local agencies that support both students and the organization with moving an environmental justice agenda forward in California/south Los Angeles 
    • Develop and train volunteers environmental justice advocates.
    • Supervise and train program assistant and student worker to organize for the EJ department 
  • Institute a media/social media presence via webinars, facebook, instagram to promotes our environmental justice work 
    • Maintain and update Facebook, Instagram or other social media sites.
    • Op-ed writing on EJ toxic chemical work.
    • Invite/engage social media/media following to events connected to the EJ program
