Alumni Volunteering

Alumni Volunteering

HCC Alumni are integral to the HCC mission of ending health disparities through diversifying the health professions workforce. Our alumni volunteers help us achieve this mission by:

  • Extending the reach of our alumni community;
  • Influencing positive change and continuous growth;
  • Increasing our knowledge and skill base;
  • Improving our cost-effectiveness; and
  • Communicating our impact to key stakeholders and potential supporters.

Interested HCC Alumni can learn more about available volunteer opportunities through the HCC YouTube channel.

HCC alumni volunteer their support to HCC programs in ways that make a positive difference every day for our interns and scholars, other alumni, and their respective communities. Throughout the year, volunteering opportunities include:

Session Leaders

Session Leaders serve a critical role by contributing to the high-quality of HCC programs by sharing their professional talents and insights with HCC interns, scholars, and other alumni as guest speakers and facilitators.

HCC Mentors

HCC Mentors promote the HCC culture of gratitude and giving by sharing career guidance with HCC interns, scholars, and other alumni while actively advocating for and facilitating their personal growth. HCC Mentors are role models, action enablers, growth facilitators, and/or personal supporters for other HCC community members.

Career Connectors

Career Connectors embody the heart of HCC's success by sharing information about HCC programs and providing exposure to various career paths through informational interviews, job search support, and general career advice.

Business Partner Advocate

Business Partner Advocates serve an essential and influential role by raising awareness of potential prospective host organizations and other program sponsors to HCC leadership. These volunteers impact HCC's ability to attract new host organizations in advance of candidate recruitment and program planning for subsequent cohorts.

Campus Representatives

Campus Representatives serve an influential role in raising awareness of HCC programs and impact within their own peer communities by creating interest among potential applicants for HCC programs.

Fundraising Representative

Fundraising Representatives are tasked with supporting HCC Regional Chapters to coordinate and implement Chapter fund-raising efforts. These volunteers maintain high-touch connections within their regions, including appeals and coordinating fundraising opportunities alongside other events and programs created by their respective Chapters. The most important goal is to help the Region meet annual targets for giving participation each year.

Community Ambassadors

Community ambassadors serve an influential role in raising awareness of HCC programs and impact; attracting prospective applicants, host organizations, and sponsors; generating donations; and creating interest among other alumni and potential volunteers.

Application Readers

Application Readers will provide support to the admissions process for HCC National Programs, to ensure consistency and timeliness of review processes as well as alignment of selected candidates with program values and goals. Application Readers are an integral part of HCC selection processes.

Data Admin Volunteers

Data Admin Volunteers will provide support to the HCC Data & Technology team, to ensure consistency and accuracy of our databases and other technology platforms. Database administration is essential to HCC's ability to maintain current, complete records of HCC interns, alumni, hosts, and other key stakeholders to contribute toward an improved understanding of the impact of HCC programs and outcomes for its participants.

Supporting the development of a diverse healthcare workforce is more important than ever. Even virtually, you can still make a difference by staying involved. If you have the means to give, HCC is in need of additional funds to support costs incurred in our transition to virtual program delivery as well as to address the ongoing impact on our fundraising sources given the economic impact of this crisis.
